This January newsletter was supposed to be about production volume bias: is it right to be sniffy about high volume wines? But the idea of the earth giving us ‘high volumes’ of anything right now feels…inappropriate.

A century ago, we had staggered to the end of the first modern war. The landscape of political and social life felt bleak. Across the pond, stringent socio-political ideologies were poised to instigate a dramatic change in the US drinks landscape. The landscape of today feels apocryphal in comparison. Can we have come so far and yet scarcely moved at all….?
