On the 13th May Swirl in the Cloud hosted a Virtual Tasting exploring the wines of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.
The tasting was attended by a virtual panel of leading wine journalists, importers and sommeliers from the UK. Guided by Sarah Abbott MW and Roberto Merlo (a leading viticultural consultant and adviser to the growers of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene), guests explored the nuances of the terroir, viticulture and winemaking of some of the finest wines of Prosecco. The focus of this Virtual Tasting was the drier side of Prosecco Superiore. All panelists received a selection of wines made in Brut, Extra Brut or Brut Nature styles, and tasted them alongside the presentation.
This Virtual Tasting was hosted by the Consorzio of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the producer association of the winemakers of the region.
Guests also received a Virtual Tasting Pack, containing technical sheets, as well as information on the commercial and cultural context of the wines of Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
Prosecco Superiore represents less than 10% of all Prosecco sales in the UK. In 2019, exports of Prosecco Superiore to the UK doubled, indicating that the UK appetite for a higher quality, higher priced expression of the more familiar Prosecco category is growing.
